Roomful of Blooms

Kay also raises chickens. We have accumulated so many chicken-themed tchotchkes, decorations, items, adornments, etc., over the years, that we often challenge the grandkids to tally them throughout the house. The total is constantly changing, and the kids usually lose interest before they arrive at a final count. It keeps them busy for a while, though.

At this time in the season, boukays in our house are not quite as numerous, though quite ubiquitous. I’ve tried to number them all, but I usually end up entranced by the beauty of one of them…and so quickly lose track of the count!

The Maker’s Retreat House

We sit at the head of an easy-to-miss, private, gravel lane in Pittsfield Township. There are only a few private properties along its 500-plus yards. At the end of our lane, our friend Nora owns and operates the Maker’s Retreat House. Ever since Nora has joined the neighborhood, she and Kay have formed a close bond based on their mutual love for all things crafty, creative, natural, and intentional.

On Saturday, August 5th, the Maker’s Retreat House will be hosting a Dried Flower Wreath Workshop.

Join us as Kay shares her tips and tricks as you create your own, lovely, 12-inch wreath which will bring you joy for many years to come. You’ll also learn more about Kay and her flower farm, which you will have passed on your way down our lane.

Won’t you please join Nora & Kay for an afternoon of creativity and craft? You can register here. Tell a friend!

Trying to Keep Up!

Come this point in the summer, you may find us…or you may not! A fleeting glimpse, perhaps as we dash about the farm attending to our agribusiness on so many levels. First, the flower field has been hinting at an imminent massive explosion of colors and varieties. After the late planting season concluded mid-June, we await a “bloom boom”. Speaking of which, can we interest you in a summer subscription?

Of course, there will be opportunities to catch us “standing still”, as it were. There will be many such moments cropping up on Kay’s Kalendar when we set up shop at markets and exhibitions throughout the season. This weekend, for example, we will be at:

We so enjoy seeing our friends and patrons at these events. Please stop by and say hello!

Added to our regularly scheduled busyness, Mr. Boukay is, once again, making a go of our ubiquitous vegetable garden. Known for his tasty salsas and picante, our tomato and pepper bounty looks to be almost as copious as our assortment of boukays throughout the summer.

This is a good time to put in a plug for our onsite sales kiosk. If you are in the market for one of Kay’s hand-crafted specialties, but cannot make it out to any of our market appearances, Kay’s Kottage may be the answer. We stock freshly cut and arranged boukays and other floral crafts here. Check out our pin on Google Maps if you’re wondering about where we are and when the Kottage is open for business.

Red, White, and Bou…kay

Okay, so the sunflowers don’t exactly match the theme, we just wanted to let you know that they’re here! Besides, because we’ve been quite busy, the July 4th holiday has already come and gone. Regardless, we did want to show off the beautiful assortment of red-white-blue(ish) boukays which have been crafted for sale at our recent markets and events.

Since we’ll be celebrating America’s 250th all season, patriotic-themed boukay creations may continue to pop up at markets, weddings, parties, etc. It promises to be a colorful summer in any event, so get in on the action by placing your seasonal boukay, or subscription, order!
