That’s a wrap, Vermilion!
We’d like to thanks the hundreds of friends, customers, vendors, and supporters of our bloomin’ business for a tremendously successful 9-week run at the Vermilion Market-in the-Park. Of course we’ll be back next summer…Lord willing. Although we contended with quite an array of dynamic weather conditions, the denizens of the market blessed us in every way. Shout out to Karen and Richard Kime!
We now return to our regularly-scheduled September-thru-October run at the Oberlin Farmers’ Market…already in progress!
See Us In Vermilion
We’ve had a great run at the Oberlin Farmer’s Market…and we’ll be back there in September. But for now, and every Saturday through August, come see us at the Vermilion Market-in-the-Park. Need more information? https://www.mainstreetvermilion.org/mip
Spring Has Sprung
Look at the first arrivals for 2023. A variety of Daffodils, Hyacinths, Tulips, and friends. We’re off and running. Look for Kay at the Oberlin Winter Market this Saturday, April 15th. Do your taxes first, though!
Of Course It’s Snowing…
…it’s March. And, why not? We’ve just lived through the wettest and windiest Winter in quite some time, here in North Central Ohio. Warm enough, also, to bring those daffs and tulips right out for a peek. Then…the 2nd substantial snowfall of the season. We were so happy with our our new hoops…and so were the 4 inches of snow the other day. Not to worry, this is just the preseason.
ICYMI
OK, so the root of business is BUSY…right? Already September and this is the first post of the 2022 season? Can’t thank all of you enough for honoring us with your “bloomin’ business” throughout this season. And, there’s no sign of stopping. We’ve met the finest customers and friends wherever our BouKays are featured. Tomorrow, you can find us at the Oberlin Farmer’s Market, from 9AM to Noon. Our BouKay cart offers the week’s best cuttings, and you can always contact us online to let us know how to help you deck out your latest backyard celebration.
What’s New in 2022?
That was a long winter. Hope yours was enjoyable. The calendar says April, but the weather says early March. A soggy, and colder-than-normal spring, so far. Though that hasn’t crimped any of the new-season planning activities. Most of our activities were hidden from view, inside the walls of our home and barn. Much like staring at the ground and seeing nothing happening..when all the action is taking place below ground, hidden from view. And then, the weather warms, the sun comes up and WHAM!! Plans start to take root, literally and figuratively.
As far as literally? All over the place, indoors, seeds have been planted, and have taken root. Now, they are sprouts yearning to be planted.
And figuratively…take a look at what sprang up in the front yard!
We are looking forward to an other colorful year of blessed business, and new friendships. Our first full year for Kay’ Boukays, and a handsome sign to mark the occasion. Should be easier to find us now!
Sign of the Times
It may be February (I know this because 6 inches of hard-pack snow covers the homestead), but spring is right around the corner. The seedlings are in the greenhouse and somebody better put a signpost together for the two-lane out front.
Thanksgiving Thoughts
The season really never “winds down”, not yet anyway. So, while we till, compost, plant, cover, and tuber for the spring, we want to take this time to praise our Lord for a memorable beginning for Kay’s BouKays in 2021. Much thanks as well, to the many patrons, customers, and supporters, without which this would’ve seemed more like just another job. Oh, and the BEAUTIFUL flowers…smashing!
Taking BouKays on the Road
Recently, Kay’s Boukays was invited to exhibit at a first-time community garden event, in Rocky River, OH. Our son-in-law is the Public Safety-Service Director there, and he graciously extended an invitation for us to add a little beauty and expertise to the event. To market, to market…
On Thursday evenings, Kay harvests the blooms.
On Friday evenings, she arranges the blooms.
On Saturday mornings, we pack the truck.
Once again, on our way to the Vermilion Market-in-the-Park.
Here comes the Sun(flowers)
At the conclusion of a near-apocalyptic amount of recent rainfall, Kay made her way to Vermilion to set up shop at the Market in the Park. I mean, It had been raining volumes for days, but the fresh flowers were already picked and arranged. As it turned out, the rain subsided just in time for the opening bell, and the few exhibitors there were eventually blessed by the appearing of the sun and the blowing of gentle breezes.
That, and the presence of hundreds of undaunted Chevy Corvette owners, who had similarly, stubbornly committed to put their Detroit Muscle on display…made for a surprisingly brisk market this past Saturday.
Thanks a Vermilion
KaysBouKays’ presence has really blossomed at the Vermilion Market-in-the-Park for the past two Saturdays. Fresh cuttings and arrangements have been flying off the stand here in Victory Park. By the way, the Gladiolas and Sunflowers are popping, and so are the eyes of the local Vermilionites when they see these gorgeous blooms at Booth 39. We’re here most Saturdays through August. Check Kay’s Kalendar for times and location.
